STREET CAR AND OMNIBUS ROUTES.
STREET CARS.
Visitors to the city will find street-car travel ample for nearly
all their needs in the locomotion line. Cars run to almost every
part of the city, at intervals of from two to twelve minutes and one
hour, according to destination. The fare to all points inside the
city limits is uniformly five cents, and that to points with which the
"dummy" connects ten cents extra.
The South Division. All the South Side cars start at the intersection of
State and Lake streets, and run as follows:
/ ~ia State street to Thirty-third street, connecting with Union Stock Yard cars.
/ Vflr State and Twenty-second streets and Cottage Grove avenue to Thirty-
ninth street; also via same route to Twenty-fifth street. The "through cars"
connect at Thirty-ninth street with Hyde Park dummy.
J'l'tt State and Eighteenth streets and Indiana avenue to Thirty-first street.
I'ia State street and Archer avenue to South branch Chicago river.
The West Division. Cars leave the intersection of State and Lake streets
for the West Side as follows:
I'in Madison street to the limits.
Via Madison and Halsted streets and Blue Island avenue to Sixteenth street.
Cars leave the corner of Randolph and State streets as follows :
I'ia Randolph and Lake streets to the limits.
J la Randolph and Milwaukee avenue to Bloomingdale street.
/ 'in Randolph, Clinton and Jefferson streets to Sixteenth street.
/'/<? Randolph street, Fifth avenue and Van Buren street to Wood street.
Tli,' Xorth Division Cars leave Clark street bridge for Sedgwick street,
Clybourne avenue and Larrabee street, Chicago avenue, Lincoln Park, Fullerton
avenue an(] Lincoln avenue. Also every hour to connect with the dummy at
Diversey avenue, running to Graceland Cemetery.
West and South Divisions. In addition to the above, a line of cars runs
through from Wood street on the W r est Side to Twenty-second street on the
South Side, via Madison and State streets. These cars run about every five
minutes.
OMNIBUSES.
In the South Division two lines of 'buses start from Twenty-second street
and go to Union Park, via. Wabash avenue and Madison street. Another line
runs from the corner of State and Madison street, via Wabash avenue, to Twen-
ty-ninth street, and a fourth from Thirty-first street, via Prairie avenue and Mad-
ison street, to Union Park. This last-named line runs only in the morning and
evening, to accommodate business men.
In the West Division, besides the 'buses from the South Side, lines run on
Milwaukee avenue, Blue Island avenue, Halsted street and Canal street, and to
and from the various depots.
On the North Side is only one line, which runs between Lincoln Park and

PUBLIC PARKS.
A magnificent system of parks and boulevards is being provided
in and around Chicago. When finished, they will be unexcelled
in the world for extent and general beauty. At present the work
is being carried out, and they present an unfinished condition.
The Parks and routes to them are as follows :
Lincoln Park On North Clark street and the lake. Accessible
by cars on North Clark street.
Humboldt Park In the northwestern part of the city, on Cali-
fornia avenue, between West Division street and West North
avenue. Accessible via Milwaukee avenue.
Central Park In the western part of the city, on Central Park
avenue, between Kinzie and Harrison streets. Accessible by Mad-
ison and Randolph streets.
Douglas Park Southwest, on California avenue, between Twelfth
and Nineteenth streets. Accessible by way of Twelfth street.
South Park On the lake, south of the village of Hyde Park.
Accessible by way of Cottage Grove avenue.
These Parks are connected by a system of splendid boulevards,
from 300 to 400 feet in width.
Besides the above system, Chicago has other parks, viz. : Union
Park, on West Lake and West Madison streets; Jefferson Park,
between Loomis and Throop and West Monroe and West Adams
streets; Ellis Park, on Vincennes avenue, south of Douglas place,
and the Lake Park the site of the Inter-State Exhibition building,
on the lake front and Michigan avenue, between Randolph and
Twelfth streets.
Union and Jefferson Parks can be reached by Madison and Ran-
dolph street cars, Ellis Park by Cottage Grove avenue cars, while
the Lake Park is within easy walking distance of the old Court
House.

HACK ORDINANCE.
The price to be charged by, the owner or owners, or drivers of
any hackney-coach, carriage or vehicle for the conveyance of pas-
sengers, except omnibuses, for hire within the city of Chicago, shall
be as follows, to be regulated and estimated by the distance on the
most direct routes, namely:
For conveying each passenger from one railroad depot to another
railroad depot, fifty cents.
For conveying each passenger not exceeding one mile, fifty cents.
For conveying a passenger any distance over one mile and less
than two miles, one dollar.
For conveying each additional passenger of the same family or
party, fifty cents.
For conveying a passenger in said city any distance exceeding
two miles, one dollar and fifty-cents.
Foreach additional passenger of the same family or party, fifty cents.
For conveying children between five and fourteen years of age,
half the above rates may be charged for like distances, but for
children under five years of age no charge shall be made. Pro-
vided, that the distance from any railroad depot, steamboat land-
ing or hotel, to any other railroad depot, steamboat landing or
hotel, shall in all cases be estimated as not exceeding one mile.
For the use by the day of any hackney-coach or other vehicle
drawn by two horses or other animals, with one or more passen-
gers, eight dollars per day.
For the use of any such carriage or vehicle by the hour, with one or
more passengers, with the privilege of going from place to place, and
stopping as often as may be required, as follows : For the first hour,
two dollars; for each additional hour or part of an hour, one dollar.
For conveying one or more passengers to or from any place in
said city, between the hours of twelve o'clock midnight and seven
A. M., for each trip, without regard to distance or number of pas-
sengers, two dollars.
For the use of any cab or other vehicle drawn by one horse or
other animal, by the hour, with the privilege of going from place
to place, with one or more passengers, and stopping when required :
for the first hour, one dollar; for each additional hour or part of
an hour, fifty cents.
For the use of any such carriage by the day, four dollars.
Every passenger shall be allowed to have conveyed upon such
vehicle, without charge, his ordinary traveling baggage, not exceed-
ing in any case one trunk and twenty-five pounds of other baggage.
For every additional package, where the whole weight of baggage
is over one hundred pounds, if conveyed to any place within the
city limits, the owner or driver shall be permitted to charge fifteen
cents.
